The panel will focus on the Swiss experience of spatial planning and urban development, particularly approaches aimed at limiting urban sprawl, making better use of already urbanised areas and improving the quality of life through planning.
Which elements of the Swiss approach might be transferable to the Polish context? To what extent planning concepts and instruments can actually be transferred between very different institutional, economic and urban contexts?
The discussion within the panel will be structured around several tensions that seem particularly relevant to contemporary spatial planning: compact city vs. green city; densification vs. quality of life; land protection vs. housing availability; and the different challenges faced by large cities compared with medium-sized or shrinking cities.
